WriteTracker
A Nanowrimo style desktop Windows app designed for writers. No bloat.
I think most of us, whether we'd like to admit it or not, need our daily goals to be clear. But we don't just want to meet them, we want to exceed them.
In todays world of internet connections everywhere, and apps abundant in browsers, finding a dedicated single use desktop app can be difficult. So I made one.
WriteTracker does not need internet. Once you've installed it, you can run it anywhere. No sign in, no ads, no privacy concerns. You can save your project files to a usb and move them to another device to manage progress if you wish. But there is no cloud.
My aim here was to get my stats - goals - motivation - in a distraction free app that serves it's purpose. It's simple.
Enter your project title and how many words you are aiming for. Then use the provided calendar for start and end dates. Press OK or hit enter.
The moment you enter your total word count, your stats will populate.
Yes, total word count, not words written in that session.
And you can make as many inputs as you like in a day.
As an example you could enter 751, then later 1222, and later that same day 2467, and the number used will only ever be
the last entry made on a given day. In this example, 2467.
Do be aware, you MUST SAVE your project. There is no autosave.
If you choose to start a project in the future - say the 23rd when today is the 20th, or next month, because you have plans,
then the input will be blocked until the start date and you'll be stuck staring at whatever charts were used last.
If you start a project with a date that comes before the day you create it,
input will only acrue from the date that you create the project, but the averages WILL take into consideration the start date you gave it.
The bar chart will provide you with daily totals. You don't need to work them out yourself, the program will do it for you. There may be some visibility issues if your project is a long one, and you have a small screen.
The line chart will provide you with total words against a target line. (Which is the original average required to finish before your first input). You can hover over the line and see what total was reached on what date.
For those of you who want to know process stats - it's footprint should hover somewhere between 17.4 to 20mb RAM.
If this is the kind of program you've been looking for - because I know I was! -
then you can find the download HERE
Do keep in mind this was built specifically for desktop/laptop users like myself.
It is a windows build, but if enough people bother me about a linux and or mac build, I might see what I can manage. OR,
maybe someone else can. This is FREE. The only thing I ask is that you do not SELL it. If you choose to make changes,
upgrades, new features, and share them freely with the community - most excellent.
If you use it, or want to develop with it, and there's some kind of feedback you'd like to give me,
feel free to send an email to development@bearbootbooks.com and I will get back to you when I can. My goal here
is to have a distraction free desktop app for writers.
